What is on it

For a house with a well, outdoor spigots or yard hydrants. Work through the first list in the fall, before the first frost. Keep the second for the night a hard freeze warning comes.

Before the first freeze

  • Hoses off, spigots covered
  • Close the frost-free hydrants all the way
  • Check and plug in the heat tape
  • Test the well house heat
  • Check the sump discharge line for freezing

When a hard freeze warning comes

  • Hard freeze: protect the well, the pipes and the generator
